Research at the Institute of Data Analysis and Visualization

Research efforts of the Visualization and Graphics Group are focused
in the fields of visualization, geometric modeling, computer graphics,
and immersive environments.
Visualization is concerned with the techniques for the "transformation" of data into
meaningful, computer-generated images. Application areas for visualization
technology are, for example, the analysis of data encountered in computational fluid
dynamics, computational physics, computational chemistry, computational and
molecular biology, medical and satellite imaging, or the simulation of complex
hydrodynamics processes.
Geometric modeling is primarily concerned with methods
for the representation and manipulation of curves and surfaces with primary
applications in the automotive and aircraft industries.
Computer graphics concerns
the development of algorithms that allow the generation of highly realistic
computer-generated images of complex three-dimensional objects and phenomena.
Immersive environments are an emerging technology that provides engineers and
scientists with a means for interacting with massive and complex three-dimensional
data, typically rendered stereoscopically, in a virtual interaction space.
